Sim4Life V9.4 Release Notes
Sim4Life V9.4 brings a stationary solver for unstructured thermal simulations, a direct link from multiport low-frequency simulations to neuron simulations, and a rebuilt manual and Python API reference.
Items apply to both editions unless tagged (Desktop) or (Web). Each release includes everything listed below it for the same edition. Desktop hardware and OS: see System Requirements.
Known Issues (Desktop B21915, Web V9.4.3)
- Instability for some rare dispersive material configurations.
- Job priorities may not correspond to the job execution order (fixed in V9.6).
- Potentially decreased accuracy in rare cases for the sensor combiner of the far-field sensor.
- Improper surface refinement or isosurface settings may lead to non-converged current values and inaccurate current normalization in some quasi-static simulations.

V9.4.2 · 14 April 2026
Desktop B21604 (text version) · Web V9.4.2, Platform V1.91.0, 9 April 2026 (platform notes)
Added
- (Web) The "New Version Released" dialog shows the full release notes in the app.
- (Web) Services no longer get stuck in "Pending" when a real-time notification is lost; the interface falls back to polling.
Fixed
- (Desktop) Voxelizing objects with corrupted triangle meshes shows an error message instead of crashing.
- (Desktop) Lossy metals can be used in simulations with subgrids.
- (Desktop) All installed Sim4Life versions appear in the Windows "Installed Apps" view (for versions installed after this update).
- (Desktop) Fixed a rare stall when submitting simulation jobs to the solver queue.
- (Desktop) A-delta neuron models require the three intersecting splines, not a single spline.
- (Desktop) Fixed unstructured simulations that only ran with a second instance of the application open.
- (Desktop) Thermal sensors record the number of time snapshots configured for each sensor.
- (Desktop) Fixed incorrect heating distributions with time-dependent heat generation rates.
- (Web) Fixed file picker progress updates, display of active dashboard filters, and duplication of projects that are open.

Added
Simulation
- New thermal unstructured stationary solver: steady-state temperature distributions in complex geometries on an unstructured mesh, with multiport support for several thermal inputs in one simulation.
- T-increase thermal transient simulations, focused on temperature rise, now also with the unstructured thermal solver.
- (Desktop)Switch Material Database changes the assigned material database, for example to an older version or from low-frequency to high-frequency data.
- Direct link from the multiport low-frequency solver to the neuron solver, with the weight of each port set in the neuron source settings.
- (Desktop) NVIDIA Blackwell GPU support with the Acceleware kernel.
Analysis
- The current conservation check of the Magneto-Static Vector-Potential solver can be disabled when current loops are closed with PEC instead of line elements.
Python and Documentation
- Better alignment between GUI and Python workflows, and a clearer API structure.
- Rebuilt manual and Python API reference with better browsing and search.
User Experience
- (Desktop) Updates to this release ship as compact installers that download quickly.
- (Web) Integrated AI assistant in the search bar for questions about tools, workflows, solvers, and APIs.
- (Web) Cleaner tool organization and easier tag management.
- (Web) More robust under demanding workloads, smoother handling of large models, and clearer feedback during long operations.
Fixed
- (Desktop) Repeated warning pop-ups no longer pile up after each sleep cycle.
- (Desktop) The Birdcage tool keeps the capacitor length when parameterization is removed, and applies new values correctly.
- (Desktop) The Huygens source amplitude is no longer described as volts.
- (Desktop) Cropping body models no longer leaves zero-volume material entities that broke gridding.
- (Desktop) The Streamline Viewer color updates when the color bar scale changes.
