Virtual Population Library
Sim4Life natively supports the largest library of high-resolution anatomical human models, the so-called Virtual Population (ViP V3/4) developed by the IT'IS Foundation. Anatomical variability in the human body in terms of age, sex, body mass index (BMI) and other anthropometric measures are fully represented in these models, ensuring a broad population coverage.
ViP models provide a realistic biological and anatomical environment for conducting fundamental mechanistic studies, testing the effectiveness and safety of medical devices and treatments, and supplementing clinical trials.

Virtual Zoo Library
Sim4Life also supports a library of high-resolution anatomical animal models, the so-called Virtual Zoo (ViZOO) developed by the IT'IS Foundation. The library includes rodent, pig, and monkey models.

Versatility
One of the key advantages of our anatomical models is their versatility. They can seamlessly integrate with implants or external devices, enabling users to study the interplay between biological structures and medical technologies and gain valuable insights into the effectiveness and safety of medical devices and treatments.
Customizable
Our powerful parametric 3D modeling environment provides users with the flexibility to customize the models to their specific needs and fine-tune them for optimal results – whether by modifying anatomical structures, adjusting physical properties, and more.
Precision
In addition, our models are equipped with HPC-accelerated solvers capable of handling computationally complex problems. This computational power allows users to conduct accurate and efficient simulations, replicating real-world scenarios with remarkable precision.
Always Up-to-Date
To ensure the utmost accuracy, our models are built upon the continually updated physical properties database of the IT'IS Foundation. This database reflects the latest scientific knowledge and guarantees that simulations are based on the most up-to-date information available.
Posing and Morphing Tools
Models are posable, meaning the posture can be altered to simulate real-world scenarios. Morphing tools permit changing the amount of body fat and muscle and can extend the population coverage further.
Verified
All human models have been reviewed and verified by independent external anatomical experts. Consistency between different models is ensured by rigorous quality assurance guidelines and internal reviews.
Poser
The Poser tool allows users to manipulate the posture of the Virtual Population models (ViP, IT’IS Foundation, Switzerland; version 3.0 or higher) to simulate specific use cases using physics-based solvers. Posing is realized by rotating the rigid skeleton at its joints, which triggers passive deformation of soft tissues. Optimized computational techniques allow deformations to be smoothly visualized in real time. Moreover, users can switch between previously saved, user-defined postures.
Key Features:
- Based on biomechanical FEM simulation
- Easy articulation of joints within their physiological ranges
- Realistic deformation of soft tissues without loss of connectivity or changes in tissue volume
- Predefined postures for standing, sitting and lying persons
